Bookkeeping Review: understand where your books stand.
Unsure whether your records are complete or your reports are useful? Get a paid review of agreed areas, documented findings, and a practical recommendation for what to do next.
Discuss a Bookkeeping ReviewYou do not have to diagnose your bookkeeping before asking for help. Perhaps an account balance has no clear explanation, a reconciliation has not been completed in months, or two reports appear to tell different stories. A Bookkeeping Review gives those concerns a defined place to start.
This is a paid bookkeeping engagement with a scope agreed before work begins. The initial discussion helps us understand the situation and define the proposed work; it is not an unlimited examination of your records or a promise of free corrective work.
1. Start with your concerns
We discuss your business, what has prompted the inquiry, and what you want to accomplish. Tell us which numbers are difficult to understand and whether you have a deadline or an immediate decision to make. You can begin with a plain-language description rather than a technical list of problems.
2. Agree the scope and fee
Before examining the records, we agree the accounts, periods, information, and specific questions the review will cover. We also agree the fee, expected deliverables, and timing. The records available may limit the questions we can answer, and we make those limits clear.
We explain which statements, reconciliations, reports, or software access are needed and how to share them securely. The enquiry form is for starting the conversation, not for sending financial documents or login details.
3. Examine the agreed records
We examine the information within the scope and identify relevant discrepancies, gaps, and concerns. We may ask for context or supporting records when something needs explanation. If an issue requires work beyond the agreement, we discuss that with you before adding it.
4. Receive documented findings
You receive a summary of what we examined, the issues identified, information that remains unavailable, and practical recommendations. The purpose is to help you understand the condition of the agreed areas and make an informed decision about the next step.
5. Choose the next step that fits
Depending on the findings, we may recommend catch-up bookkeeping for missing periods, cleanup for existing records needing correction, or ongoing monthly support. We explain the reason for the recommendation. Corrective work and recurring Profit Edge Bookkeeping are separately scoped and agreed; the review does not commit you to either.
Clear limits, useful recommendations
A Bookkeeping Review is not a formal financial statement audit, an assurance engagement, or a tax audit. It does not provide an audit opinion, guarantee the accuracy of every financial record, or replace services outside the agreed scope.
The findings relate to the records and questions included in the engagement. They should be read alongside any stated limitations or outstanding information. If you need a different professional service, we will make that distinction clear.
- Unexplained account balances
- Incomplete or outdated reconciliations
- Inconsistent or unreliable financial reports
- Disorganized records or uncertainty about missing information
- Uncertainty about catch-up, cleanup, or monthly support
Frequently asked questions
Is the Bookkeeping Review free?
No. The review is a paid engagement. We use an initial discussion to understand your concerns, then agree the review scope and fee before examining the records.
What will I receive?
Documented findings for the agreed areas, including identified issues, information gaps, limitations, and recommended next steps. The exact deliverables are established before the work begins.
Does the review include fixing the books?
Corrections are not automatically included. If catch-up or cleanup is recommended, that work is separately scoped and agreed before it starts.
Can I request a review if I am not sure what is wrong?
Yes. Describe what concerns you, whether that is an unexplained balance, an inconsistent report, or uncertainty about how current the books are. We help define specific questions the review can address.
Do I have to sign up for monthly bookkeeping?
No. You can use the findings to decide what is appropriate. Ongoing Profit Edge Bookkeeping is an option where it suits your needs, not a requirement of the review.
